Australian Country Artists This is a look at Australian country music, from bush ballads and yodeling oldies to country-rock and outlaw twang, and even some more modern Top Forty artists. This includes artists from both Australian and New Zealand, though there's a separate Kiwi Country section which has a lot of overlap. There's a ton of twang Down Under, and I'm pretty sure I'm only scratching the surface, so I welcome any recommendations, additions or corrections.

Les Partell "This Here's An Akubra (Not Just A Hat)" (Bellbird Records, 1982) (LP)

Lynette Payne "Widow Of The Highway" (Date unknown) (CD)
This self-released, low budget digital-era country set is a trucker/truckers-wife album recorded by Aussie cowgal Lynette Payne, who seems to have known what she was talking about: she's pictured on the front cover in full western gear, leaning against a semi cab with the logo for "A & L Payne Transport" emblazoned on the door, this presumably being her family business. The studio musicians included John Ballard on mandolin, Michael Eyb (drums), Alistair McPherson (steel guitar), George Yarnold (bass and guitar) and Tammy Payne providing backing vocals Guitarist Alistair McPherson had been playing on OZ country records since the 1970s, while John Ballard worked on some sessions dating back to the late '70s. Mrs. Payne seems to have been from New South Wales; at least that's where her trucking company was once located. Not sure when this came out, but it looks like something from the 1990s or even more likely the early 2000s.
